Starting in 1910, the French Navy began a dreadnought battleship construction program, starting with the four ships of the Courbet class that year. Construction was cancelled due to the outbreak of World War I in August 1914 before any of the ships could be laid down. The design was an improvement on the previous Normandie class, and mounted a fourth quadruple gun turret, for a total of sixteen 340 mm (13 in) guns. The first two were named for cities in France, while the rest honored French admirals Abraham Duquesne and Anne Hilarion de Tourville. The class was to have comprised four ships: Lyon, Lille, Duquesne, and Tourville. The Lyon class was a proposed type of battleship which was planned for the French Navy in 1913, with construction scheduled to begin in 1915.

Good players learn to use the advantages and avoid exposing the weakness of their ships to opposing players. While I find WOWS takes a lot of liberties in how they spec the ships, I think this is done for the good of the game. I attribute my good luck to the fact I am learning to play better as I have been making less mistakes that get you sunk. I suspect those saying the Lyon is OP have just ran up against better players or a player having a lucky battle. While I've had good luck in the very few battle's I've played so far, I haven't found the Lyon to be a ship that can change a below average player, which my numbers say I am, to a average player. I did not expect it to be overpowering as some had claimed. But I laid down my hard earned credits & XP & got the ship. So much of what I read about the Lyon was negative or that it is overpowering I was hesitant to buy.
